VAT
Your system is pre-configured for Saudi Arabia. 15% VAT is calculated automatically on invoices through tax templates.
Tax templates
- Accounting
- Setup
| Template | Used on | Account |
|---|---|---|
| Sales Taxes and Charges Template | Sales invoices, quotations, sales orders | Output VAT (payable to ZATCA) |
| Purchase Taxes and Charges Template | Purchase invoices and orders | Input VAT (recoverable) |
| Item Tax Template | Items with a different rate (zero-rated or exempt) | — |
The default template
Open the 15% sales tax template and make sure Default is ticked, so it's added to every new invoice. Do the same for purchases.
Tax-inclusive prices
If your published prices include VAT (restaurants, retail), tick Is this Tax included in Basic Rate on the tax line of the template. The system then extracts VAT from the price instead of adding it.
Zero-rated or exempt items
- Create an Item Tax Template with the required rate (0%).
- Open the item and add the template in its taxes section.
Tax and simplified invoices
| Type | For | Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Tax invoice | Businesses (B2B) | Full customer details and VAT number |
| Simplified invoice | Individuals (B2C) | No customer tax details |
The Rowdx tax print template shows the QR code and required details in both cases. To send invoices to ZATCA electronically, see ZATCA connection.
VAT return
To get the figures for a period (monthly or quarterly):
- Output VAT — from the Sales Register for the period, tax column.
- Input VAT — from the Purchase Register.
- Net — the VAT account balances in the Trial Balance or General Ledger for the VAT account.
Returns (credit and debit notes) reduce VAT automatically in the same registers.
WARNING
Rowdx prepares the figures, but the return is filed on the ZATCA portal. Review the numbers with your accountant before filing.
